Work, Rest and Play

This tryptich is a move away from previous works which were totally dependent on found objects or acquired readymades.
Each of these pieces, and the work as a whole, follows a personal narrative necessary for its construction.
But you, the viewer, are free to decide any story you wish.

Money Talisman

This wallet was redesigned to hold a medicine-bundle/bilongo imbued with a power for the owner to accrue wealth.

The bundle contains ash from a £5 note, the dust from my money (right leg) pocket, a £1 coin and medical swabs from the swabbing of several higher denominational notes. Each of these elements are attached by copper wire to the wire character at the front of the wallet and soldered into place.

Does it work? Results are inconclusive... but I have £6:95 in my trouser pocket... and, therefore, at time of writing I'm 95p down.

Love Talisman

Two Chances Remaining

This work is a conglomeration of ideas and concepts acquired from many belief systems. Cultural elements including the supernatural beliefs of West African power associations, Jewish/Christian gematria practices and New Age spiritual 'sciences' have been combined and incorporated in this piece as layers of text, material and process.
Its purpose is to bring love to its owner. Three relationships have altered the individual and two opportunities remain.
The dimensions of the piece are 30mm x 40mm (+6mm) x 15mm. Its main constituents are worked from Silver, Iron, Sheepskin Parchment and Huon Pine... there are also small quantities of chemical metal and gold leaf present... and a tiny amount of blood (mine).

Cognitive Dissonance

'Fake News'

There is a need for people to have consistency to cement their beliefs. When there is inconsistency, elements of their perceived truth must change to eliminate the dissonance created.

This work represents a massive event that did not happen... and also recognises the continuation of the world after December 12th 1954. A spaceship from the Planet Clarion did not arrive or save Dorothy Martin and her cult members ('The Seekers') and the world was not annihilated by a flood predicted by Dorothy.

The piece stands at 320mm high by 210mm square. It is made from dyed, steamed and formed anodized aluminium, acrylic tubing, mild steel wire and molded glass.
